Clarity is an important aspect of a diamond, and it is equally important to know how to grade the clarity of a diamond before you buy one. It is quite easy to learn to grade clarity of the diamond. There are essentially two things you must understand: Diamonds with visual inclusions and flaws, and those which are “eye clean” meaning there are no inclusions or defects that can be visible to the naked eye. After this, the clarity of a diamond is sub-categorized.
People are have the wrong notion that the diamond’s clarity refers to how clear it is. This is not the case. Clarity refers effectively to the internal and external imperfections of the diamond. A grade of FL or IF – Flawless or Inside Flawless — will mean that the diamond is perfect; it’s the best. A grade of I-1, I-2 or I-3 means that the diamond is imperfect. A note of I-3 means it is the worst.
Other grades are VVS1 and VVS2 means that the diamond is very, very slightly imperfect; SP1 and SP2, the meaning of Diamond is very slightly imperfect; SI-1 and SI-2, means that the diamond is slightly imperfect.
