Colored diamonds are what fashion demands these days. Gemologists have developed new ways to come up with versions that are affordable for the average citizen. They do this by processing diamonds which are less desirable. These diamonds are treated with irradiation then with high intensity heat. This turns brown yellowish diamond into bright and beautiful colored diamond that you can afford. This procedure creates magnificent colors of green, blue, yellow, red, violet and other colors. The colors are permanent, but they they could change during repairs when intense heat is used.

Procedures or treatments such as irradiation makes vividly colored diamonds affordable to many people. Most natural colored diamonds are also rare and very expensive. When you go shopping for colored diamonds, keep in mind that any affordable fancy colored diamond has been processed so don’t expect a real and rare diamond to be inexpensive. Know about the origin of the stone and ask for a lab certification to verify authenticity.

If you also want to own diamonds but cannot afford the expensive ones, try Synthetic colored diamonds. They are real diamonds, but they are processed in a laboratory.

Natural fancy colored diamonds have coloring of different trace elements present in the stones, such as nitrogen, which produced a yellow diamond. Exposure to radiation during its creation can result to colored diamond, too. A green diamond, for example, is a diamond affected by radiation.

Another way that the natural colored diamond gets its color is by its inclusions. Inclusions provide unique tones and brilliant flashes of color in a fancy color diamond. Again, bear in mind that natural fancy diamonds are very expensive, any colored diamond marked to be sold as natural should have an accompanying certificate from a respected grading laboratory.

A “fancy” diamond is a natural diamond with a color. These colors can be red, green, purple, violet, orange, blue and pink – and most shades in between. Fancy shades vary from mild to intense.

The most famous diamonds in the world are color diamonds. The Tiffany Diamond is yellow and Hope Diamond which is blue are colored diamonds. Color diamonds have an amazing track financial record. The value has never decreased on wholesale level for more than 30 years. Blue and pink diamonds have doubled every 5 years when the economy is strong. For example, in the 1970s someone may have bought a very high quality Blue Diamond for about $ 50,000. Today the same stone would be worth between 2 and 3 million dollars.
